Image Making Authors
I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful stories written by your budding authors! As a culmination of all they learned in Writer's Workshop, students worked through the entire writing process beginning with brainstorming and ending in publishing. Students were also required to create stories with an author's message. Rough drafts were edited by peers, in addition to myself and Mrs Nishikawa. The children worked hard to make sure they had complete sentences and punctuation. Creating the illustrations for the stories got the creative juices flowing! Papers created in image making were used to cut out and piece together illustrations to be bring their stories to life! Final touches added with a sharpie completed the final masterpiece! I hope you all enjoyed reading/listening to them as much as your child did in creating them!

Mathematicians:
The last of our math lessons were spent reviewing adding and subtracting with regrouping. The children also discovered how repeated addition is actually multiplication! We looked at 3 dimensional shapes and learned about their attributes (vertex, faces, and edges), and even covered telling time. For problem solving the children continued to work on Read It! Draw It! Solve It! to show/explain their thinking, and Perplexors to practice critical thinking. There were still a few pages left in our booklet. If you're interested, Perplexor books in all levels can be purchased online. I encouraged the students to take some time out each week to review basic math facts over the summer to prepare for third grade!

I hope you have all received an invitation from ipadhayashi to access your child's Google Drive folders. Just a note: you must be logged onto your google account. If you have not received it, please be sure to send me an email.

Camp Andy
Camp Andy was a huge success! The children enjoyed working together to prepare a meal for their classmates, finding food for and feeding the ducks, playing traditional "camp fire games" and even enjoyed a starry night story telling experience. It is our hope that through this experience the students continue to appreciate the wonders of the great outdoors and its inhabitants, in addition to serving as stewards for our precious Punahou campus.
