Dragonfly News September
Welcome to a brand new school year! We are excited to have the opportunity of working with your child this year. Together, we know we can make it a wonderful learning journey! We hope to work together to enrich your child's second grade experience. This year there are many things your child will be learning. Much of it will be new. Our goal is to help your child discover the value of trying different things and taking risks. It is not the end result that is important, but rather the process. We have shared, with your children, that for us, the real value of a person is what comes from their heart. Their attitude, mindset, and ultimately their effort, is how we measure their success. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send us an email. As we embark on this new school year, we thank you in advance for your support!

iPads In the Classroom
This year, your child will be part of the One to One technology program with iPads. Each student has been assigned an iPad for use throughout the year. The goal of this program is to provide your child with a tool that will enhance their learning experience. Through the course of the year, the iPads will serve as a means for children to use their imaginations and creativity to demonstrate learning. The iPads will also provide opportunities for students to practices and reinforce skills based on individual needs. Various apps will allow children to work collaboratively in groups, as well as independently, depending on the project and unit of study. Students will create a collection of work on Google drive, through which you will have access.

Lunch and lunch cards:
Students have been delighted by having so many choices for lunch! Each day the children are offered a meat dish, a vegetarian dish, and fresh yogurt with fruit. The salad bar is part of your child's first meal purchase. Children have the option of purchasing seconds. Here children are only charged for the main dish. Seconds to the salad bar are free. Homelunchers also have the option of purchase "milk only" using their cards too! Lunch cards will be kept in school throughout the year, and each day students are reminded to check and double check to see that they have their own lunch cards. Please be sure to use the lunch menu as an opportunity to have a conversation with your child. Discuss lunch options, salad bar choices, and option to have seconds.

Aloha United Way:
Thank you all for helping your child support Aloha United Way! It was neat to see the many creative "jobs" the Dragonflies came up! In honor of Punahou's 175th birthday, Chaplain Medeiros challenged the children to earn $1.75 or $17.50. :) We were also invited to watch our fourth grade buddies chapel on AUW, and the children were able to make personal connections! The last day to collect donations will be Friday, October 9, 2015. We are all hoping to hit 100% participation! Thank you in advance for your support
